Here are the styles we've used in this template...This template does not
use any tables - all fonts, colors, positions, etc. are controlled by an
external style sheet. When aligning images, you simply assign one of the
image classes (imageLeft, imageRight, imageBorderLeft, imageBorderRight)
to each image individually.
Heading 1 style
Heading 2 style
Heading 3 style
Heading 4 style
Heading 5 style
Heading 6 style
subtitle 1 class wrapped in a "span" tag
subtitle 2 class wrapped in a "span" tag
subtitle 3 class wrapped in a "span" tag
The "Read More" link used in the "Sunset" box
The "Sunset" box:
<div class="sunsetBox">
<div class="sunsetTitle">My Title</div>
<div class="sunsetText">Content text</div>
<div class="readmore">Read More</div>
</div>
Here is the code to use wherever you would like one of the boxes. There are three "DIV" tags nested in a main DIV.
To use this code, instead of typing it out manually, select all the text in the box at right, starting with the first "<div>" tag and ending with the last "</div>" tag. Next, open up a plain text editor, such as Windows™ NotePad, and paste the content into it. That will remove any formatting we've used to display the code to you. Now copy the new, unformatted text, switch back to your HTML authoring software, and paste it into the code where you want the box to appear (or, select "Edit > Paste HTML" while in design view in Dreamweaver.
Adding Your Content
With only one page serving up all your content, its a breeze to customize this site. Simply change the titles of each "page" section, then click and drag to select the existing content, delete it, and type or paste in your own content. If you decide to paste in content, you should first remove all text formatting that other software has applied to to it (i.e. Microsoft Word).
To do this, copy your block of content to the clipboard by selecting the text you want to use, then pressing CTRL+C on your keyboard - just the CTRL and the letter C - the plus sign is used just to inform you that both keys should be pressed at the same time.
Next, open up a plain text editor, such as Windows NotePad. Place your cursor in the NotePad window and select Edit > Paste, or use the keyboard shortcut or CTRL+V. This pastes the content in it's bare, unformatted form. Now, from the file menu select Edit > Select All. Then copy this content to the clipboard by pressing CTRL+C. Your content is now ready for pasting into your web page.
All the text styles have been preformatted in the external style sheet. You should not add font styles, sizes or colors in the page content area. You can create a new style in the css/0607-01.css file, then assign the new style to a <span></span> of text, to a paragraph, etc. Or you may edit one of the existing styles to reflect your personal preferences. Please make a copy of the original CSS file before make changes - you may need to revert to it, or examine certain styles in their original form.
Changing the Generic "Your Name" logo
You will need an image editing program to change the logo text. We have supplied the source file (the original, layered file created in Adobe's Fireworks image editing software) for the site. Locate it in the folder named "Source_Files." (Note: when uploading your site to your host space, do not upload this folder). Most every image editing program can open this type of file. You can download free trials of many image editors, or you may already have one installed, if you have a digital camera or scanner.
The instructions for editing the name text are included in the source file. Once you open it in your image editing software, follow the instructions in the file to make the necessary changes and export the new masthead with your name changes. Be sure to enable "slice" view before you export the file. You want to export only the slice that contains the name changes.
To Add an Image
Place your cursor at the begining of a paragraph - to the left of the first letter. Depending on your HTML authoring program, you may then use an insert > image from the file menu - each program will have it's own particular method of adding one - or you can drag and drop the image into place.
Once the image is inserted, make sure you fill in the "Alt Text" area with a description of what the image is conveying. Then select a style class to apply to this image (imageLeft, for left alignment with no border, etc). As soon as the style has been applied, you will see the image shift to its position, with the other content wrapping around it.
Creating a Blockquote box
Type your content and click and drag to highlight all of it that needs to be enclosed in the blockquote, then click on the icon that represents a text indent (a blockquote) in your authoring program. It is grouped with the text properties icons, such as left/center/right/justify alignment.
Or you may type out some of your content, then press the "enter" key on your keyboard, as though you were going to create a new paragraph of text, but before typing any more content, click or select the "text indent" icon to move the cursor in to the blockquote tab position. Then type out the content that will be inside the blockquote. When you have added all the content you desire, click on the "text outdent" icon, which will then terminate the blockquote area.
Adding a Bookmark
Select a Word or phrase by clicking and dragging to highlight the content that will serve as your bookmark (we have used the section/page title for each bookmark).
In Dreamweaver: you will then select from the software menu Insert > Named Anchor or CTRL+Alt+A. Give the bookmark a meaningful name, in all lower-case letters with no spaces or added symbols. Just a simple word or words with no spaces. Example: homepage is a good bookmark name. Home Page is not a good bookmark name.
In FrontPage: you will select from the software menu Insert > Bookmark or CTRL+G. Then name your bookmark as outlined in the previous paragraph.
